The best of the best: Porsche’s top 5 luxury vehicles

By Bruce Powers

Porsche is one of the most reliable brands on the roads today. From manufacturing luxury vehicles to producing prototypes worthy of competing in Le Mans and F1, there’s no question about the performance of its sports cars and SUVs.

As a long-established auto repair shop in Newport Beach that services Porsche vehicles since 1969, we’ve handled many of its models and can give you a rundown of some of its best models.

Here are five of Porsche’s best:

PORSCHE 911

Fully redesigned in 2020, the Porsche 911 fulfills every expectation of a luxury sports car. Its eye-catching appearance screams luxury at a glance, and under the hood, you get a powerful engine that gives an excellent driving performance as expected from a Porsche.

The look and feel of the Porsche 911’s interior match its stylish exterior. It’s comfortable, modern-looking, and packed with some of the latest tech features for luxury vehicles: automatic climate control, Radio Plus, and options for a 12-speaker Bose or 13-speaker Burmester audio system.

Of course, it also boasts the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) infotainment system with a 10.9-inch touchscreen to control satellite navigation and radio, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, WiFi hotspot, and two USB ports.

The supported front seats offer comfort both for driver and passenger. The back seats, on the other hand, are a point of contention for being too cramped. Considering that most sports cars don’t even have back seats, Porsche 911 is definitely giving customers something extra.

PORSCHE CAYMAN

The Porsche Cayman’s best features are its powerful engine, agile handling, and high Predicted Reliability rating.

Despite having a high acceleration rate (zero to 60mph in five seconds or less), the Cayman still drives very smoothly thanks to its two-liter, 300-horsepower, turbocharged four-cylinder base engine (which can be upgraded to a 414-horsepower six-cylinder). With its six-speed manual transmission, its drivers will definitely feel its exhilarating power and luxurious driving every time they’re behind the wheel.

Other features include two comfortable and spacious seats, climate control, and the full PCM suite which includes a 7-inch touch screen and eight audio speakers.

With a base price of about $57,500, the Porsche Cayman is one of the most affordable luxury sports cars in the market, but it’s definitely not the least in performance.

PORSCHE TAYCAN

Porsche Turbo

Porsche’s entry into the hybrid luxury and electric car classification, the Taycan is remarkable for its lightning-fast acceleration. It can go from zero to 60mph in 3.8 seconds, which is faster than most fuel-powered and electric sports cars. You can get even faster acceleration with the Taycan Turbo S which can achieve 60mph in just 2.6 seconds.

This hybrid drives smoothly and easily through corners. It has a comfortable interior with spacious front and rear seats made from luxurious material. While it has a smaller cargo space than other luxury electric cars, it eclipses so many others in terms of interior and build quality. It features an almost-completely-digital center stack with a standard infotainment system that includes a 10.9-inch touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay, satellite radio, and 10-speaker audio.

PORSCHE BOXTER

Here’s another Porsche that scores very high for performance, driving ease, and Predicted Reliability rating. The Porsche Boxter is a gorgeous convertible with quick acceleration: zero to 60mph at 4.5 seconds and 170mph top speed (the Boxter S can go much faster, though, at 60mph in just four seconds and 177mph peak speed).

It’s most known for being an immensely pleasurable drive. Its 300-horsepower, turbocharged two-liter, four-cylinder base engine can go up to a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 350 horsepower. It can also run on a Spyder engine, which would further elevate its performance thanks to its four-liter, six-cylinder engine with 414 horsepower.

Being a convertible, the Boxter has an attractive interior with sporty, colored seats. It has a user-friendly infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen control panel linked to Apple CarPlay, satellite and HD Radio, and an eight-speaker stereo. Owners can also flex with a suave boarding thanks to its proximity keyless entry.

PORSCHE CAYENNE

Porsche’s Cayenne is a strong contender for luxury, midsize SUVs. It boasts of a spacious interior, powerful engine, above-average Predicted Reliability rating, and smooth, agile handling that rivals that of a sports car.

After a full redesign in 2019, the Cayenne now sports a sleeker, cleaner look both inside and outside. Its interior now resembles the Panamera, while its rear exterior is now a lot closer in appearance to the 911.

The cabin is lavish and spacious (60.3 cubic feet of space behind the front seats and 27.2 cubic feet behind the rear seats), and comfortably seats five adults. It also comes with two complete LATCH sets for child car seats.

One of the most notable updates from the 2019 remodel is the center console. All the physical buttons were replaced with a 12.3-inch touchscreen control panel for the car’s built-in infotainment system. It has Apple CarPlay, satellite radio and navigation, Bluetooth, and a 10-speaker audio system. Other trademark Porsche features include climate control and proximity keyless entry.

With four engine choices ranging from a three-liter V6 engine with 335 horsepower to a twin-turbocharged, 2.9-liter V6 at 434 horsepower, the Porsche Cayenne is more than enough for your everyday driving.
